Online Continuing Education Course Information
Title: Advanced Practice Nursing in Arkansas
Description: This ASBN 2 Contact Hour CE course provides Arkansas APRNs with current information regarding the statutes passed in the Arkansas General Assembly. Rules and regulations applicable to the APRN are discussed to facilitate managing scope of practice.
Objectives: Upon completion of the course the learner will:
- identify changes to APRN practice/prescribing as a result of the new statues (laws) from 2015.
- modify APRN practice to incorporate new statutes.
- identify process for prescribing Hydrocodone combination products.
- identify changes with collaborative practice physician.
- review process for establishing and utilizing Prescription Drug Monitoring program.
- review process for delegating access to Prescription Drug Monitoring Program in a clinical setting.
- summarize new changes in rules for APRN practice.
CE Information: Approved by ASBN for 2.0 contact hours. This course module meets 2 hours of pharmocotherapeutics as required for APRNs with prescriptive authority. Completion of the examination must occur to receive contact hours.
Certificate: A certificate of completion will be available for download after successful completion of the examination.

Title: Prescription Drug Abuse and Misuse
Description: This ASBN 1 Contact Hour CE course provides Arkansas APRNs with information relevant to issues associated with prescription drug abuse and misuse. Rules and regulations applicable to the APRN are discussed to facilitate managing scope of practice.
Objectives: Upon completion of the course the learner will:
- identify behaviors that are commonly exhibited by drug seeking patients.
- recognize commonly abused prescription drugs.
- identify the first line therapy to treat chronic pain.
- describe risks and harms associated with opioid use.
- list common side effects of opioid narcotics.
- examine the Arkansas State Board of Nursing’s Rules regarding treatment of chronic nonmalignant pain.
CE Information: Approved by ASBN for 1.0 contact hours. This course module meets 1 hour of pharmocotherapeutics as required for APRNs with prescriptive authority. Completion of the examination must occur to receive contact hour.
Certificate: A certificate of completion will be available for download after successful completion of the examination.

Description: The purpose of the nurse practice act course is to promote, protect and preserve the public health, safety and welfare by means of regulating the practice of nursing and schools of nursing within the state.
Objectives: Upon completion of the course the learner will:
- identify the mission of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
- describe the scope of practice for nurses in Arkansas.
- explain how a license is disciplined in Arkansas.
CE Information: Approved for 2.0 contact hours. NCSBN is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by boards of nursing in Alabama.
Certificate: A certificate of completion will be available for download after successful completion of the examination.
