The development and resulting publication of Arkansas Vital Statistics 2005 requires the efforts of colleagues in many
different areas of the Arkansas Department of Health.  Although acknowledging each person connected with this endeavor       
is impractical, several individuals and organizations deserve special recognition.                                           
The Center for Health Statistics has primary responsibility for the analysis of birth, death, marriage, divorce, and induced 
abortion data as well as for the preparation of Arkansas Vital Statistics 2005 and does so under the supervision of   
John Senner, PhD, the Centerís Branch Chief.  Priya Kakkar, Health Program Analyst, verified, prepared and analyzed          
the data used to generate the tables, with the oversight of Paul Johnson, Senior Research Analyst.                           
The Arkansas Vital Records Section (Michael A. Adams, Registrar and Section Director) is responsible for the collection   
andregistration of all vital events.  The data compiled from these records are used to produce this report.                  
Collaboration between colleagues in Vital Statistics and Vital Records is essential in providing accurate data.              
John Senner, PhD, the Centerís Branch Chief, edits fetal death information and processes data from the United States         
Census Bureau to produce population data for report production.  Gayla Nooner, Health Program Analyst from the Center        
edits marriage and divorce data.  Dorene Harris, Statistician for the Center, does medical data quality assurance with input 
from Faye McLelland, Vital Records Secretary.  Grace Carson, Assistant Director; Steve Whisnant, Field Representative;       
and Vanessa Calamese, Administrative Support Supervisor all from Vital Records, ensure that data corrections are made        
in a timely manner.  Our Documents Examiners perform a wide variety of duties.  Denise Jarrett assists with keying cause     
of death from the death certificates.  She also keys in fetal death certificates as well as out-of-state death certificates. 
Charlotte Caldwell, Secretary, is responsible for keying out-of-state birth certificates, induced abortion data and for      
distribution of all reports.                                                                                                 
The Office of Technological Services provides the computer support for data entry and management.                            
The United States Census Bureau provides the state population data that enable the calculation of many of the rates in the   
Most out-of-state occurrences of vital events to Arkansas residents are incorporated into this report through inter-state    
exchange agreements; although marriage, divorce, and some induced abortion data are not received from other states.
