Fetal Deaths


Arkansas had 277 Resident Fetal Deaths (> 20 weeks and/or > 350 grams)

The leading cause of fetal deaths resulted from “Conditions Originating in Perinatal Period”, comprising 92.4% of the total (256 deaths).

The fetal death rate was still higher for blacks (10.8) than for whites (6.4). The rate for whites has increased from 5.4 in 2003 and the rate for blacks has decreased from 11.4 in 2003 (rates are per 1,000 live births plus fetal deaths).


Infant Deaths


There were 320 infant mortalities to Arkansas residents in 2004.

The Arkansas infant mortality rate was 8.3, compared to a U.S. rate of 6.6.

Black Arkansans had an infant mortality rate of 13.5, compared to a white rate of 7.1.
