BreastCare offers FREE screening and diagnostic services for Arkansas women along with public and professional education. If you qualify, the following services are FREE:
- Mammograms
- Clinical Breast Exams
- Pelvic Exams and Pap Tests
- Follow-up Tests, if Needed
Program Mission
BreastCare’s mission is to increase the rate of early detection of breast and cervical cancer and reduce the morbidity and mortality rates among women in Arkansas by lowering barriers to screening that result from lack of information, financial means, or access to quality services.
Program History
The Arkansas Department of Health received a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 1993 to create the BreastCare program. Grant activities included, to study how many Arkansas women had breast and cervical cancer; to find health care workers across the State able to test, diagnose and treat; and to develop public and professional educational materials. In 1995, ADH received federal funds for qualified women with breast and cervical cancer to receive free screening and diagnostic services.
Program Goals
- Increase breast and cervical cancer screening services by improving the program.
- Plan and carry out evidence-based (proven to work) actions that will increase breast and cervical cancer screening.
- Offer free breast and cervical cancer screenings and follow-up services to eligible women.
- Monitor and ensure quality breast and cervical cancer activities.
- Improve provider education for BreastCare providers and partners.
- Keep a database of all screening, diagnostic and treatment for BreastCare clients.
- Track and measure all program activities to determine how well they work and to identify best practices.
