Injury Prevention and Control

Welcome to the Injury Prevention and Control Branch website pages. This is a relatively new Branch within the Arkansas Department of Health that was created on October 4, 2009. Injury is the leading cause of death for Arkansans between the ages of one and 44. This one statement summarizes why our Branch is so significant and why we are truly excited to be able to provide the resources and expertise to reduce the adverse impact of injury in our State. The goal of our site is to provide you with relevant and useful information relating to this important topic. The Branch is comprised of two components.  The first is the Injury Prevention Section, the focus of which is to execute a wide variety of programs designed to reduce the incidence of injuries in our state.  The second is the Trauma Section, which has worked diligently to implement Arkansas’ new trauma system, which was created by the Arkansas Legislature in 2009.  The two booklets listed below provide excellent information concerning the trauma system, to include injury prevention, both before and after passage of the Trauma System Act in 2009.  Please take a few moments to explore the site and let us know if you have comments or suggestions to make it even more useful. Now, let us get started!
