Emergency Preparedness
To enhance laboratory preparedness, CDC established the Laboratory Response Network, LRN, in 1999. The newly created LRN was utilized for rapid detection of Bacillus anthracis during the anthrax attacks in 2001. Once again during the SARS outbreak the LRN was called upon. The LRN has grown from a network of primary public health laboratories to include veterinary, military, and international laboratories.
